Curated archive record from NASA's 2023 historical software and automation incident catalog. NASA's catalog says reboots caused the lunar lander's engine to shut down during descent, resulting in loss of the vehicle. The catalog cautions that an incident's behavior may not mean software itself was the sole root cause. This is a public-source summary, not an independent eyewitness report.
